Lower server numbers can sometimes hamper performance, particularly in streaming or large downloads, etc. But in the case of this Encrypt.me review, it seems to perform well surfing the web.

As an interface, Encrypt.me offers a simple, basic option. Do you want your web experience encrypted or not? That’s the only thing you decide with Encrypt.me. You don’t choose servers nor locations, just whether you want the service on.

Such basic interfaces help those who might not need robust options, or don’t want to introduce any confusion into their VPN use. 

Privacy

Encrypt me states that while it does not sell your data, it does log your IP and history. According to an article on CNN.com, the company says that it deletes this info after 16 days. In terms of a VPN, that’s not a great attribute, though the honesty and transparency is appreciated. At the very least, you understand exactly what happens with your data.

P2P

We don’t find any support for this. In some cases, it might work out to use P2P file sharing sites with your IP concealed via Encrypt.me. But this VPN likely isn’t the absolute best option to leverage for torrenting or P2P.

Pricing

You’ll pay either $9.99 per month or $99.99 annually for unlimited data. That’s about average with any of the top VPNs on our list. 

Conclusion

Encrypt.me is a very basic and simple VPN. It’s intended for newbie users who might otherwise be confused by more feature-rich VPN experiences. While it does have a low server amount, it speeds generally seem good. Try Encrypt.me.

VPN is a newcomer, as we mentioned in our intro. But it’s certainly not lacking in features. Clearly, a VPN’s history is meaningful in a review and WeVPN won’t have much of that to write of. What I will say is to keep in mind, if you want a cheap VPN, or something that’s affordable and does the job, you need to take the lower price into account. 

Servers & Technology

WeVPN has over 100 servers in over 40 locations. This is not considered a dense amount when compared against our other best VPNs. But again, as we will get to in a bit, you are paying less. With a VPN, you need to assess your need. Do you need 1000+ locations or servers? If you can’t answer that question, you don’t likely need them. It’s that simple. 

If you are someone that knows for certain you need high-volume servers and locations, then WeVPN isn’t likely your jam. But for most normal people, WeVPN’s servers and locations likely suffice. 

In terms of locations, you’ll get the Americas covered, which includes the United States, Brazil, Canada, and Mexico.

Europe is heavily covered. 

In Asia Pacific, you’ll get Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore.

In terms of Africa and the Middle East, you get server access in India, Israel, South Africa, and UAE.

That’s a decent location lineup for a normal web user’s purposes. 

Kill Switch

WeVPN uses a kill switch. When you enable the kill switch, your Internet connection automatically stops when a WeVPN server stops working. This ensures that your data and IP address aren’t quickly exposed to your ISP or lurkers.

Split Tunneling

WeVPN uses split tunneling. THis means you can section off apps or Internet destinations whereas you don’t want the VPN to deploy. For example, you might not be able to use a VPN to check your online bank account. With split tunneling, you simply whitelist that website. 

Devices

WeVPN supports Mac, iOS, Android, and Windows. WeVPN covers 10 devices per account. That’s a very competitive, impressive number. I’d say the average is typically 8 devices.

You can use WeVPN across gaming devices such as XBox, Playstation, and Nintendo Switch. It also works on smart TV devices, such as Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Android TV. There are Chrome and Firefox extensions. 

Protocols and Encryption

WeVPN uses OpenVPN and IKEv2/IPSEC protocols. OpenVPN is one of the top two protocols available, so this is great news. For encryption, you get military grade AES-256 GCM. That’s the best encryption available. 

Speed

You won’t lose much off your ISP connection when you turn on the WeVPN app. Less than 10% speed losses, which is great. 

Pricing

As I’ve noted a few times, WeVPN is a cheap VPN in terms of price. Their main deal is a 12-month, $2.49/month price plan. If you just pay monthly, it’s $4.99. There is a 6-month deal that’s $2.99 monthly. 

You can pay in Cryptocurrency which is a great benefit for those who don’t want to log any data during the signup process.

Unblocking

WeVPN unblocks Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, and other major platforms. WeVPN uses their own software, WePLAY, to assist in the process of unblocking streaming platforms. I can’t speak to the reality of those claims, I can only say that the service does a solid job at accessing streaming content. 

P2P and Torrenting

Yes, you can. In the case of WeVPN, you just P2P or torrent on any of the servers you choose. You don’t need to select specific P2P servers for file sharing. 

Privacy

WeVPN doesn’t keep any logs. The leverage a Sealed Server Technology(SST) which they claim helps them eliminate memory disk at point of restart. They claim that none of their employees can ever gain access to any data. 

The main company is located in the British Virgin Isles, which means it’s insulated from major subpoena threats. Again, they say they store no logs, so even if they were forced to unveil, there should be nothing to show. 

Conclusion

WeVPN is a cheap VPN that’s feature-rich and does a great job at unblocking major streaming platforms. As our WeVPN review shows, the privacy experience is solid. You can use WeVPN for P2P, and torrenting. You will maintain good speed in comparison to your normal ISP connection. Try WeVPN today.

It’s just something I feel I should mention, in the end, where and how a VPN gets server access is less important than the quality of the servers.

In terms of speed, SaferVPN hasn’t been impressive in many other SaferVPN reviews. But as a cost-effective, or cheap VPN, option, that’s none too surprising. Those who sign up for SaferVPn want to save money and achieve online privacy. That certainly happens.

Privacy

SaferVPN does not log your IP Address, your SaferVPN IP address, your browsing history, DNS queries, no personal or meta data. They claim to encrypt the full gamut of meaningful personal data. That’s right on par with their competitors in the class.

SaferVPN is an Israeli based business. Israel has tight consumer privacy laws they must comply with. But again, if a VPN isn’t storing data like SaferVPN isn’t, then it really doesn’t matter a whole lot where it is located. But it’s nice to have the extra assurance.

Pricing

If you take a long term deal, SaferVPN is actually a pretty cheap VPN. A 3-year deal means you pay $2.50 a month. That’s $89.99 every 3-years.

But if you pay monthly, you are looking at $12.95, which is quite high by industry standards. 

Unblocking

You can unblock Netflix. You might have trouble with Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video. Overall, SaferVPN might not be your best option for unblocking streaming. 

Conclusion

SaferVPN is a cheap VPN option for those who want to save money and increase their online privacy. They are not a top VPN option for streaming or speed, however, you are paying less and the service certainly does a great job at protecting your data. Try SaferVPN today.

Hotspot Shield VPN focuses on lots of server options and high connection speeds.

Servers

Hotspot Shield utilizes over 3200 servers via 80 countries. That’s a decent amount of country selection which most certainly helps in the streaming unblocking department (I will get to that in a few). 80 countries is well enough options, though it is a little lower than some of the other top VPNs. Again, it really only matters what you need. Do 10 additional county selections make or break your VPN experience?

It should be noted, with Hotspot Shield, you select a country, not a specific server.

Your bandwidth is unlimited, so stream as much content as you like.

Device Protection

With Hotspot Shield, you can protect 5 devices. Now, this is a bit lower than its competitors. If you need to protect more than 5 devices, Hotspot Shield may not be for you. But if you are under the device limit, you probably win. Hotspot Shield focuses on blazing-fast Internet VPN connections. I would assume that lowering the amount of connections likely helps insure you get those desired speeds. With any product, it’s give and take.

Hotspot Shield works across every major device, including Macs. In fact, it’s considered the best free VPN for a Mac.

Privacy

Hotspot Shield doesn’t log your browsing history. They are on par with other top VPN experiences in such way. We’d never rank a VPN high if it logged browsing activity, that would be terrible.

According to Hotspot Shield’s privacy policy, they don’t have any information worthy of sharing with law enforcement. Unless you are chatting with their customer service, everything is encrypted and nothing is stored. Bandwidth numbers are stored, but not what happens over that bandwidth.

Hotspot Shield does store account signup information, but that’s rather standard and mostly unavoidable. And I don’t see any option to use cryptocurrency.

Also, its important to note some subtle differences between Free and Paid plans in terms of privacy.

So, when you use Hotspot Shield, it does log your IP address, but it deletes it when you close out the session. It also snags your device model, OS, language, and network information. Not sure what’s meant by network information. If you use a free account, you can add on your city, MAC address, and wireless carrier.

Overall, Hotspot Shield privacy is a great experience. Though we’d like some clarification on network information collection.

Speed

Speed is the name of the VPN game, no doubt.

Hotspot Shield stakes its biggest claim in speed. Consumers want speed as much as they want privacy, so it’s a big deal for a VPN to get it right.

First, lets talk about protocols. The Internet protocol a VPN is critical to its speed. The two most popular protocols are OpenVPN and Wireguard. For the most part, I have a rule that if a VPN doesn’t use either of the two aforementioned, we don’t consider them for our best VPN list. But alas, the exception to the rule – Hotspot Shield. They use something called Catapult Hydra protocol. They believe this improves issues normally experienced by OpenVPN that allows for more speed.

After testing Hotspot Shield on U.S. and U.K. servers, I found it dropped my Internet speed by a negligible 5% max. That’s great. Again, I can’t choose specific servers, just countries. But it all worked out. Upload speeds remained almost exactly the same.

P2P and Torrenting

Yes, you can use Hotspot Shield from both P2P file sharing and torrent sites. Again, you can’t choose specific servers with Hotspot Shield, so in essence, you just use any country you decide. It all comes down to concealing your IP, which Hotspot Shield accomplishes.

Hotspot Shield Review – Pricing

Hotspot Shield has a popular free VPN version. So let’s start there as that’s what most people are interested in initially. I’m not always a fan of “free” because I typically believe you end up paying for the service eventually.

If you use Hotspot Shield free VPN, you can only use U.S. locations. You can’t stream. The moment you try to stream content, they will attempt to upgrade you. And beside that, you only get 500 MB per day.

That said, for a free VPN, it’s a fair deal. Oddly, the free VPN speeds are good. But again, you are highly limited in terms of activity.

The paid deals line up like this:

$12.99 monthly / 3-year plan at $3.99 monthly / 1-year plan at $7.99 monthly

Clearly, the big winner is the 3-year plan. That’s no surprise as most VPNs reward long-term customers.

Conclusion

Hotspot Shield VPN lives up to its billing as a super-fast VPN connection. The downside is that you can only protect 5 devices per account, so if you happen to need more than that, this might not be the VPN for you. However, if you are under 5 devices, Hotspot Shield’s fast speeds and reliable service make it a must-consider VPN. They say this includes “2-months free.” To be honest, that’s just sales jargon, even without months free, this is a slamming good deal.

Conclusion

At just under $70 for two years, Private Internet Access is a good, cheap VPN. They use Wireguard, allow for 10 devices connected, and allow P2P surfing. That’s not a bad deal at all for those who are economically minded.

But all in all, marketing tactics aside, this is their main price point. It’s a cheap VPN, as we stated. If you were to consider any other plan, the “cheap VPN” factor loses its luster.

Conclusion

VPNCity is a cheap VPN that does the basics when it comes to protecting your online identity. Don’t expect tons of bells and whistles, just basic privacy protection at an economic and affordable price point. If you don’t want to spend a ton, VPNCity is a good option. It’s also very easy to use.
